| On
Saturday 7 October, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Association in Reading
UK hosted their ever popular annual dance in the prestigious Victoria
Suite at the Town Hall to celebrate the 27th Anniversary of Independence
of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The
venue was most appropriately prepared and arranged to heighten the feeling
of opulence for what turned out to be a most enjoyable evening for members
and their 150 family and friends out to enjoy the fun-packed evening.
The
Chair Gloria Jack, in her opening greetings was quick to give thanks to
all the members who have worked hard throughout the years to lift the
Association to such prominence where the Association is being so highly
praised for the help and assistance given to so many worthy causes including
the homeland. This, she explained, was the reason for the marvellous turn-out
and support on the night.
The
evening started with a cabaret by “Take Two” featuring the
sensational singer Kim Strickland and Neil Drinkwater on piano, followed
by a wonderfully finger-licking buffet, lavishly prepared by the members’
catering team.
Vincentians,
so proud of their independence were in melodious voice to sing the National
Anthem before revving up to whine down the house with some heavy soca
rhythm.
The
evening was made even more special by the presence of the representative,
Bernice Samuel from the High Commission for St Vincent and the Grenadines
UK and the Government representative, The Honourable Mike Browne (Minister
of National Mobilisation, Social Development, and Local Government).
Minister
Browne delivered a very encouraging message from the Prime Minister, The
Honourable Dr Ralph E Gonsalves and expressed his delight in being able
to share the enjoyment of the evening with fellow Vincentians in the diaspora.
Minister Browne also presented the prestigious Certificates of Recognition
and Appreciation awarded to Mr Pollen Exeter, Mr Alan McLeod, Mrs Althea
Wickham and Mrs Violet Lampkin, four of the most deserving members for
their dynamic participation in the St Vincent and the Grenadines Association
for the betterment of fellow members.
On
the right in the photo is Althea Wickham one of the recipients of the
award with her guests feeling mighty pleased.
The
evening unfolded as a resounding success, the first of much celebration
by Vincentians in the UK for the independence of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
