| The
future of the banana industry in St Vincent and the Grenadines is the
new talking point amongst students there and in the UK following an education
tour of officials to Britain recently.
The
tour was organised by the St Vincent diaspora organisation SV2G.
The
delegation visited community groups and schools in High Wycombe, holding
a series of Caribbean Heritage and Cultural workshops.
Jacqueline
Roberts vice-chair of SV2G said: “The whole tour has been very successful.
We have accomplished our aim of raising an awareness of Caribbean heritage
and culture.
“This
is just the beginning for SV2G as we have a number of programmes lined
in our education project. We have had a productive meeting with the Local
Education Authority, Buckinghamshire Chiltern University College and the
Commonwealth Secretariat.

“I
look forward to following up these meetings of which we enhance and further
the work of SV2G. We are privilege to have been sponsored by the Lottery
Fund, Windward Bananas, Unesco and the World Bank,” Roberts said.
The
visit took place between March 17-25.
After
Brooklyn, New York, High Wycombe in the UK has the largest Vincentian
community in the world outside St Vincent itself.
