| The Wycombe Community Festival is co-ordinated by Saint
Vincent and the Grenadines 2nd Generation (SV2G), the organisation that
raises awareness of Caribbean heritage and culture within the community
of Buckinghamshire.
The event is supported by: BCUC; St. Vincent & Grenadines Tourist
Office & High Commission; Thames Valley Police; Bucks Fire & Rescue
Service; and the Bucks Free Press.
Jacqueline Roberts, Chair of SV2G and a Sociology student at BCUC says:
“This is a community event, designed to encourage a sense of belonging,
pride and self-worth among community members by providing an awareness
of many cultures and filling the gap of knowledge within our community.
This is the second year we will have run the event, and it will include
a diverse range of activities - food, music and dance - celebrating the
rich heritage of the community as a whole.”
A number of local community organisations will be taking part, including:
an African group of singers and dancers; Wycombe Steel Orchestra, Sri
Lankan dancers, and salsa, tango and hip hop dancers.
Catering will include: Caribbean cuisine; Polish food; Indian food; a
licensed bar; and cream teas. Activities will include: face painting;
children's craft; a bouncy castle; and a football tournament for 13-19
year-olds.
Entrance is free, but funds raised on the day and from participating
organisations will be given to the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.
If you know any organisation that would like to take part, musicians
young or old, or individuals that would like to volunteer on the day,
please call SV2G on 01494 436269 or 07967 296789.
